After all the huffing and hyping and the slow-building tsunami wave of hysteria, Lady Gaga’s ‘Born This Way’ launches today. You’ll be hearing it for yourselves soon enough, but we can say that we find it overlong and – shorn of the grand theatricality of her infamous live shows – rather underwhelming. We wonder how much sense any record built so clearly for maximum impact on the dancefloor makes outside a club, and how much of the G-force relies on face lace and lobster hats. But dammit, she’s the closest thing we have to Grace Jones that isn’t Grace Jones. And we applaud her, at least, for that.
