The recent blight of rioting and looting that swept through the capital last week may have all but dissipated after reaching boiling point on Monday evening, but many of the fantastic initiatives born out of reaction to the events are still going strong. One of the most heartwarming expressions of community solidarity has come in the form of the Peckham Peace Wall, based at the site of boarded up Poundland on Rye Lane. Seven days later, the Walls (they’re now on to their second) are going from strength-to-strength and look set to become a permanent fixture of the Peckham landscape after the original was relocated and put on public display at a local library. The Wall’s organisers ‘Peckham Shed’ are currently seeking a long-term home for the pieces and actively encourage residents and well-wishers to continue adding their thoughts in note form.
