Killing time in the Great British queue, we’ve often thought the Christmas shopping experience could be improved by relocating it wholesale from a cattle market department store to, well, a cocktail bar. Now the aptly named The Shop in Kensal Rise is doing just that. Their Spice and All Things Nice Christmas Shopping Market from November 26/27 promises to be a civilised affair, with none of the elbowing and caterwauling of the high street hell that starts before we’ve even cracked open the advent calendar. With an ethos reflected in its cocktail menu- mixology by the name of ‘Habadashery’ and ‘Once Loved’- the wares on offer will be of the handmade and upcycled variety. Make do and mend in style with Sir Plus silk boxers (see above) stitched from Saville Row off-cuts or get a taste for the Peckham Pickler’s chutneys and preserves, sourced from the flora and fauna of south London. Don’t leave without getting a demo of Sharp and Dapper’s ‘Derby Sock Suspender’ that promises to keep a gentleman’s garments in order – surely a must for any office Christmas party.
