Dita Von Teese’s festive top tips

Dita Von TeeseWith Christmas just around the corner, we thought it only prudent to ask Ms Von Teese for her pointers on a stylish holiday season – cue black stockings, pink lights and, er, a hippopotamus…?

I love to entertain at home, whether it’s in my LA home or my Paris apartment. I always choose one special cocktail to mix for my guests. When I’m in California where we always have a sunny Christmas, I like to make my ‘MargaDita‘ which is the original recipe but with essence of rose and spicy chipotle pepper for an unexpected twist. I also make a big spread of appetizers and finger foods. I love to make cheese fondue but I also choose a few healthy snacking options too.

Mostly I love buying gifts for the kids in my family – Christmas is really for them! Last year I gave my family plane tickets to Paris.

I love Christmas decor, I have lots of pine garlands with peacock feathers and little birds nesting in the garland, with beautiful white lights. It looks beautiful with my art-deco-meets-Victorian decor.I have a pink tree with twinkling pinks lights and lots of crystal ornaments. Pink light casts a sexy glow – I love a sexy Christmas! I also always hang one of my black-seamed stockings on the mantle rather than a traditional Christmas one.

Songs and movies
I love the film ‘A Christmas Story‘ – it never gets old, and I can watch it every year! For music, I listen to a lot of Christmas songs by Johnny Cash, Elvis, Brian Setzer, Ella Fitzgerald… The only modern-ish song I would have my Christmas playlist is Wham’s ‘Last Christmas‘! And I love Gayla Peevey’s ‘I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas‘. It’s hysterical.

Eating and drinking
It has to be a cocktail.
