You may well remember the original ‘The Joy of Sex; A Gourmet Guide to Love Making’ by Alex Comfort published in 1972 with it’s iconic bearded male lover and titillating ground breaking text. To the uninitiated, it might sound more like a sexy cook book, which in effect, is exactly what it was – a taboo busting, illustrated guide to doing the nasty, using the same approach as cook books like ‘The Joy Of Cooking’ (mmm what shall we have for the main course?) that spent 70 weeks in the New York Times Best Seller list (1972-74). To bring it up to date, relationship psychologist Susan Quilliam has brought out ‘The New Joy of Sex’ and will be talking about the role of women in the original and her rewrite at the Bordello boutique on Wednesday 30 November (7-9pm). Tickets are £5 and are first come, first served. Sonya Barber
