Queuing at your local supermarket and discussing the price of cat food with the old lady in front may be as adventurous as you get when talking to strangers (without a pint of gin in you at least), but what are strangers if not friends you haven’t met yet? And if that’s all too sentimental for you, then perhaps think of strangers as an information source or at least late night banter fodder. Instead of approaching randoms on the street, Rebecca of Thinking Bob events and Tom Jones of Tired of London have teamed up to bring you the speed dating of conversation. Talking to Strangers is a simple concept; sit at a table of strangers, pick a light-hearted topic from the conversation menu and see where the night takes you. If Stephen Fry’s ‘English Delight’ on Radio 4 this morning is anything to go by, we could all do with some practise at the art of conversation anywho! With raffles, drinks and bunch of new friends to be made, it’ll be pretty anti-social of you not to go to the Devereux tonight. Carly-Ann Clements
