Act On the Transport Museum Depot Open Weekend

For the big kid inside all of us, venturing inside the London Transport Museum Depot is a dream come true. Based near Acton Town station, the Depot is like a director’s cut of the Covent Garden Museum, with a huge collection of posters, vehicles, signs, models, plans, maps, photographs, film, video, uniforms and, wait for it, a miniature railway which you can actually ride on! For this Family Open Weekend, the Museum have teamed up with the London Vintage Taxi Association, so they’re also hosting a unique vintage taxi display and talks on the history of the black cab and the Knowledge. But you might have spotted that word – family. Unfortunately this is a weekend also aimed at real children, so if you’re getting your geek hat on, you’d better be ready to battle with some waist-high crowds, who will be busy enjoying Toby the Taxi and craft workshops. However, the Acton Depot is only open a couple of times a year, so for the real transport enthusiasts, it’ll be well worth it.  Victoria Gray
