Little Noise, big entertainment

The Maccabees

Since the first series of gigs in 2006, the Little Noise Sessions have quietly become some of the most prestigious events in London’s gigging calendar. Held every year in association with learning disability charity Mencap, these intimate and acoustic shows at the St John-at-Hackney church are the antithesis of Live Aid’s bombast, yet still promise stadium-rupturing headliners. Bono, Noel, Amy and Chris (Martin) have all played before, and though some names are still to be announced for November’s week of gigs, we think you should pounce on tickets while you still can. Sheffield rocker Richard Hawley plays from his Mercury-nominated ‘Standing at the Sky’s Edge’ LP on Wednesday 21, while The Maccabees (above) play all of their impressive ‘Given to The Wild’ album on Friday 23. Rounding things off are west London’s biggest Tom Petty fans, Noah and the Whale, who play on Saturday 24. Oliver Keens
