Reap the benefits of Dalston’s new Harvest

Posted at 12:30 pm, April 10, 2013 in Food & Drink

There’s no shortage of grocery shops in Dalston filled with fresh veg, pulses, dried fruits and more thanks to the vibrant Turkish community in the area. But Dalston’s newest one is working on cornering a specific corner of the market – ethical consumption. Filled to the rafters with organic and fair trade produce (fresh and packaged) this place is a worthy rival to Stoke Newington’s popular branch of Whole Foods Market. The large shop, decked out with wooden planks, raw brick and utilitarian shelving also has a juice bar and café. On our visit the selection was a little limited  – a couple of houmous sandwiches on pumpernickel, simple boxed salads and a handful of muffins, but they said that the range is likely to expand. Perfect fodder (and cultural capital) for socially-minded young Dalstonites, Harvest E8 will undoubtedly go down well with the locals. Cath Phillips
