With online shopping encouraging us to stay indoors, retailers are coming up with new ways to keep us on the streets. Namely – booze, and discounts. Needless to say, you had us at ‘booze.’ This Thursday (May 30) all seven streets in London’s Seven Dials will be pedestrianised, allowing you to peruse at leisure without being mowed down by cabbies. For one night only, more than 120 stores including Urban Outfitters, Orla Kiely, She Uemura and Twenty8Twelve will be open until 9pm and reducing their prices by 20%. Most of them will offer refreshments to sweeten the sale.
Do as the Italians do and take a passeggiata along the pedestrianised streets, slurping alcoholic ice creams from the Twisted Ice Cream Cocktail Parlour and picking up snacks at foodie stalls including Eat My Pies and tangy rhubarb and chilli ice cream from connoisseur Ruby Violet. Free cocktails come courtesy of Bloom Gin at the St Martin’s Courtyard Pop Up bar: swirl your hand into the candy floss machine for complimentary silky pink strands of sugar. For anybody looking to change their style, G-Star raw is offering free denim consultations, while Time Out favourite Karine Jackson will be offering free five minute fringes in her ritzy salon. A burlesque display from Coco De Mer will provide the va-va-voom – with sexy smalls modelled on lithe contortionists. Just keep your sticky candy floss hands off them. Ellie Ross
