At last, Crystal Palace can be known for something other than its premier league football club (which survived being put into administration in 2010), its big mast (aka the Transmitter Tower), or the Great Exhibition (60 years ago, but still gets talked about). Joining the ranks of south London yummy mummy food markets such as Balham, Clapham and Dulwich is a new Saturday farmer’s market next to Westow Park (10am-3pm). Alongside all the usual artisan bread and fresh groceries, there’s a particularly strong emphasis on locally grown produce and sustainability, with stalls selling jam made from unwanted local fruit, foraged wild herbs, and fruit and veg grown within walking distance, by ‘ordinary locals’ (and not just those with big gardens).
