Who says east Londoners should have all the fun? Not the Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens, whose twelve day summer festival kicks off today (July 16) with a double bill of dinner theatre featuring ‘Forget Me Not‘, the story of how the world nearly forgot WWII’s greatest poet, and Shakespeare’s ‘A Comedy of Errors’ at the Tea House Theatre. Performances run all week and dinner is served while you’re watching, which sounds a far more enticing evening than the usual Eastenders/ready meal combination. This weekend look out for arts, crafts, tea and cake from CULTIVATE at the Lambeth Country Show, plus feel the heat at El Corazòn de Verano’s tango classes. The festival rounds off with a weekend of family fun on July 27-28, with all the fun of the village fete: dancing, markets, egg and spoon, a raffle and a tug of war. South London’s never had it so twee.
