Calling all music fans who can’t stand the idea of a festival sponsored by a cheap lager brand! In The Woods is the antidote to corporate mud-baths. Set up by the Laurel Collective in 2005, this independent music festival takes place in a secret wood in Kent just one hour south of London and having been for the past few years, I can promise you that it is truly a lovely affair. The band and their mates lovingly build the whole thing from scratch, the people who come aren’t dicks and it has previously been one night only – perfect for those who want to head home to nurse their sore heads – however this year it has been extended to both Friday and Saturday nights to maximise fun times.
Previous acts include Anna Calvi, Lucy Rose, Lianne la Havas and Alt-J, but instead of announcing the line up for this year’s festival (which takes place August 30-31) in the usual bog standard way, they have decided to drip feed the bands playing via the app Snap Chat! The first announcement goes out today and you can catch the rest over the next few days by downloading the app and adding ‘inthewoodsfest’ (find out how to do it here). Or if this is all too newfangled, all the acts will be announced on John Kennedy’s XFM show on Monday August 26.
Sounds good, right? And now you want to go don’t you?! Well the bad news is that this year’s festival is totally sold out. The good news is that we have a pair of tickets to give away. All you have to do to be in with a chance of winning is tell us who you would like to see on the line up by midnight on Monday August 26. We will pick the winner at random and they will be notified on Tuesday August 27 (which should give you enough time to dust off your tent for the weekend). Good luck! Sonya Barber
