$isters! Enjoy a club night of entirely female hip hop

Posted at 11:15 am, October 25, 2013 in Arts & Entertainment, Music & Nightlife

Sometimes the music industry is a bitch. Especially to women. You don’t have to look hard to see it, like that rather misogynistic music video featuring half naked girls falling all over a bloke whose name rhymes with Knobbin’ Dick, for example. However, the video did spurn an incredible backlash of parodic feminist responses, which proved once again that women have a powerful voice and a strong place in music. Arts and writers collective Not So Popular continue to champion female artists with their club night ‘$ister $ister’, which is dedicated to only playing the best in female fronted hip hop, r’n’b, reggae, garage, disco and dance. Head down to Juno in Shoreditch tonight (October 25) for free and party to anything from Mary J Blige to Azealia Banks. Don’t worry, bros are welcome too. Ally Swadling
