Pop-ups come and go like a hipster’s facial hair, yet precious few offer something truly original and different (pardon our yawns while we read a press release from yet another ‘secret speakeasy’, or see snaps of another ‘exciting new burger concept’ online). But there are a few that really do offer something you can’t find in every stripped-down bar in Dalston. Pepe’s Kitchen is one such pop-up, in a pub in Soho. It’s Filipino. With a roll-call of classic dishes such as pork cooked in coconut milk with chilli and garlic (Bicol Express) or oxtail and peanut stew (kare kare) all costing under a tenner, you can taste the Philippines without leaving the West End.
