Cycle Speed Dating
We’ve all heard the story about the couple who met at traffic lights, cycled around holding hands in the sunshine and tandemed down the aisle. They sound like dicks. Cycling café Look Mum No Hands! have two Cycle Speed Dating nights at their Mare Street location. One (tonight!) is for straight men and women, and the other is for gay men. After 15 or so short dates, you tell the Cycle Speed Dating team if you’d like to see anyone again and the next day you’ll receive an email with your matches. The perfect setting to meet bike-minded, like-minded folk. Wednesday 12 is for gay men, 7pm for 7.30pm start. Look Mum No Hands! 125-127 Mare Street, E8 3RH. £12. See their Facebook page for details.

Connect Four Speed Dating
If bikes aren’t your bag, how about Connect Four? The Breakfast Club and Beyond Retro are being delicious, ridiculously well dressed cupids and teaming up for this speed dating night with a twist. Ladies stay seated while men rotate for three minute matches/dates. Who knows what might blossom over the classic four-in-a-row strategy game? Thursday 13, 7pm (doors open at 5pm) The Breakfast Club, Hoxton, 2-4 Rufus Street, N1 6PE. Tickets are £10 and include bar snacks. Find out more at thebreakfastclubcafes.com

Or if you prefer your dating a little slower, there are a couple of other nights that might be your bag:

Monty’s are back with their latest ‘party for the unattached’. In an attempt to avoid romantic clichés (but stick within Valentine’s conventions), they’re throwing a bloody themed bash based on the 1929 Valentine’s Day Massacre under the railway arches on Cambridge Heath Road. There’ll be 200 singletons, a whole load of mingling, a bar, music and matchmaking aplenty. Friday 14, 7.30pm, £22 per ticket and you need to bring a friend of the opposite sex. Check out hellomontys.com for details.

The filthy ‘singles night for people who don’t like singles nights’ is getting hot and bothered this Valentine’s Day. There’ll be dancing, mingling,  and flirting galore. When you find a hottie, write them a note, put it in the slagbox, they read it out and you wait for the magic to happen. Sorted. Friday 14, The Old Queens Head pub, 9pm-2am, £4. Find out more on their Facebook page.
