Thought of the day

We’ve all heard about it, possibly even seen a few, but Angel station’s famous ‘Thought of the Day’ always had a degree of mystery about it. Who are these wise kings (or queens) of the Customer Information whiteboard?

Well, Time Out can now reveal that the main man behind TotD is London Underground employee Ken Waters, a West Ham fan, and resident of London for 22 years. He explained, ‘A tube station in west London put up a sign asking people to stop kissing outside because couples saying goodbye were holding up traffic’. So, in response, Ken wrote on a whiteboard, ‘You can kiss goodbye in our station’. It was the beginning of a sometimes hilarious, sometimes thought-provoking forum. They’re even big in Japan (apparently, the station was featured on Japanese television, after national broadcaster NHK heard about their ritual). Peter Yeung
