Chin Chin Laboratorists
The ice cream here is made to order using liquid nitrogen. The two daily specials – one dairy, one non-dairy sorbet – have guaranteed wow factor. 49-50 Camden Lock Place, NW1 8AF. Camden Town.

Patisserie Valerie
Their east London branch is conveniently located next to Old Spitalfields Market; the classic fruit flavours tend to be the best. 37 Brushfield St, E1 6AA. Liverpool St.

Gelateria 3BIS
Classic flavours, inventive options, frozen yoghurts, ice-cream cakes, brioches, crêpes and speciality coffees – this Borough Market star has got the lot. 4 Park St, SE1 9AB. London Bridge.

Gelato Mio
It may have spawned offshoots in locations including Fulham, Notting Hill and St John’s Wood, but we love the Holland Park original, and don’t mind the queues. 138 Holland Park Avenue, W11 4UE. Holland Park.

Many of the flavours at this gelateria change daily, but ice creams may include roasted red plum, while sorbets might be lemon and sage, or pea and basil. 7 Archer St, W1D 7AU. Piccadilly Circus.
