These days it’s not enough for shoe companies to just make shoes. Hell no. Not content with churning out Chuck Taylors for indie kids across the globe, Converse set up the CONS Project LDN with music events, talks and events to celebrate ‘the musical foundations of underground street culture’ (ie show off their musical street cred). Sure.
Next up, Vans is following suit to show they are the shoes of the cool kids by opening a creative hub called the House of Vans in the former Old Vic Tunnels under Waterloo Station. Part skatepark, part gallery, part cafe, part bar, part cinema, part music venue, the venue has got pretty much all the bases covered! They’ll be events, screenings, workshops, exhibitions, skate sessions, BMXing and best of all, it’s 100 percent free. Plus they’re looking for fresh talent to take over studio spaces for artists in residence programmes.
House of Vans opens on on August 9. Find out more at HouseOfVansLondon.com.
