Cheap thrills: great gigs this week for a tenner or less

Posted at 10:00 am, August 6, 2014 in Music & Nightlife

Live music is great. Paying through the nose for it… not so much. So here are this week’s best cheap-but-good London gigs. Enjoy!

Superfood at Notting Hill Arts Club

Mixing up post-punk and Britpop, Superfood are the latest stars of the Birmingham indie scene which spawned Swim Deep, Peace and Jaws. Wednesday August 6. £5.

Mdnght at Hoxton Square Bar & Kitchen

Four posey Manc lads perform dreamy, funky house-pop with falsetto vocals and obvious chart ambition. It’s all performed live too – no loops here. No vowels, either. Friday August 8. £6.

Demob Happy at The Social

Brilliantly upbeat garage rock that nods cheekily to The Strokes and Queens Of The Stone Age. Wednesday August 6. £5.

Nathan Detroit at The Windmill Brixton

Missed out on Blink-182 tickets? This lot mine the same nostalgic punk seam. Monday August 11. £3.

Oscar at The Lock Tavern

The young Londoner brings his winsome, lo-fi guitar pop out of the bedroom and on to the stage. Sunday August 10. Free!
