What’s better than watching a film all snuggled up in bed? Watching something on a big screen whilst lounging on a bean bag, propped up on comfy pillows and being served drinks and snacks, that’s what! Well, that’s what the folks behind wet and wild film party Hot Tub Cinema are hoping, as they launch their brand new concept: Pillow Cinema!
From Thursday November 6, they’re moving the tubs out of their east London venue in the old Shoreditch station and filling it with soft furnishings for a new season of film screenings. Each event will be BYOP (Bring Your Own Pillow) with a strict ‘no pillow, no entry’ door policy and you’ll be able to rent a big FatBoy bean bag for £20, which is roomy for one or a good size for two to share (early bird tickets will be £15 per bean bag!). They’re calling it ‘the cosiest “night in” night out’, so just think of this like watching a film at home, but bigger. And with strangers.
They’ll be showing classics like ‘Amelie’, ‘Fight Club’ and ‘There Will be Blood’, as well as hosting all dayers including Bill and Wes’ Excellent Adventure (three great Wes Anderson films), drool-a-thon Ryan Gosfest and kid-friendly alternatives.
Traditionally, a Hot Tub Cinema screening is followed by a jacuzzi party with banging tunes, splashing, drunken dancing and occasional nudity. We’re curious to see if these new events will take a similar turn. Pillow fights anyone?
