Open Mike Eagle at The Old Blue Last

Payday is still feeling pretty distant, huh? Don’t worry: you can still catch some great live music this week without digging deep. Here are five shows this week that’ll set you back less than a tenner, leaving you more cash for that post-gig pint.

Open Mike Eagle at The Old Blue Last

The offbeat ‘art rap’ MC from LA layers his clued-up, slow-rolling lyrics over rippling beats. An incredible opportunity to catch a top-class artist for free. Tuesday November 18. Free.

The Night VI at The Stillery

The ultra-stylish London pop-rock sextet launch their ‘DIY’ EP with a set of genteel guitars, classy harp and keyboards and understated vocals. Plus a DJ set by Mystery Jets. Friday November 21. £5.

Popstrangers + Xaviers at The Social

Sunny, spiky, reverb-heavy grooves from Kiwi psych-pop band Popstrangers, plus a wild improv set by Bo Ningen offshoot Xaviers. Wednesday November 19. £5, £3 adv.

Hey Colossus at The Windmill Brixton

A rare opportunity to pretend you’re Neil Young: this brilliantly titled tribute night includes live band karaoke, a covers outfit and guest acts including Dead Flowers weaving ol’ Neil’s hits into their sets. Friday November 21. £6.

The Levity at Notting Hill Arts Club

An encounter with ’80s songwriter Terry Britten inspired this Devon band to make their own synthy tunes. Less yacht-rock, more skiff-pop. Wednesday November 19. £5.
