Imagine the bliss of walking down a London street without the blare of traffic horns or having to triple check you can cross without being mown over by a taxi. Car-free Sundays – will they ever happen?
The idea has been thrown around before, but after discussing traffic implications and concerns about public support, it just became one of those many London fantasies. But you may be intrigued to know that after Bojo’s recent trip to Indonesia, he is said to be reconsidering plans to introduce car-free Sundays to central London.
He took part in a similar occasion on his trip to Indonesia’s capital Jakarta (they’ve been doing car-free Sundays for the last 16 years!) and appears to have been inspired enough by the event’s popularity to suggest that TfL ‘dust down those old ideas’ and reassess the weekly carbon-saving initiative.
