January is rubbish. Everyones knows that. Christmas is over, New Year is gone and you’re back at work, probably still feeling the effects of all that festive over-indulgence. How to beat the January blues? Simple: go out and have as much fun as possible. Luckily, there are plenty of great things happening throughout the month, from parties soundtracked by top DJs and rappers to super-cosy filmic experiences. Read on and then go enjoy yourself. And remember, there’s lots more January fun to be found over on our Nightlife page, including our January party highlights.

Friday Jan 9

The Nest

Fiery rapper Ms Dy-na-mi-tee – a Mercury Prize winner back in the day – shows off her sharp-tongued skills with a mix of hip hop and a dash of grime attitude. London party crew Shorebitch will be warming things up by spinning some dirty dancefloor grooves beforehand.

Saturday Jan 10

groove control

Queen of Hoxton

Garage-loving party crew Groove Control host another night of 2-steppin’ bliss. UKG stalwarts Luck and Neat lead the charge, with more garage goodness plus disco, house and basement grooves from Larry Sun and Dom Fader. There’ll be old and new-school tunes aired in the basement, plus disco and house upstairs in the bar. Bo!

Pillow Cinema

Former Shoreditch Underground Station

The movie mavericks behind London nightlife sensation Hot Tub Cinema have conjured up another full-fat fun filmic concept. Snuggle-up amongst a ton of pillows, get comfy, order a drink and watch some great films: welcome to Pillow Cinema, people. Taking place in Shoreditch’s former tube station (now converted into a seriously cosy venue for the occasion), you just need to buy an advance ticket, bring your own pillow and you’re set. Upon arriving you’ll be allocated a bean bag. Then simply sit back and relax, while soaking up some awesome movies. Today there are three separate screenings: ‘Frozen’ at 1.30pm, ’12 Years a Slave’ at 4pm or ‘Blackfish’ at 7pm. If you’re feeling particularly indulgent, why not attend all three and make a brilliantly lazy day of it? And just to clarify, you can indeed order booze to be delivered straight to your bean bag, giving you maximum kicking-back time.
