Throwback Thursday: John Goto’s 1977 ‘Lovers’ Rock’ portraits

In 1977 John Goto created a series of photographic portraits of young British African-Caribbeans at Lewisham Youth Centre, South London, where he taught evening classes in photography. In 2013 he rediscovered them and published them as a book, ‘Lovers’ Rock’ – absolutely available on Amazon, FYI. John was kind enough to share his photos with Time Out, so scroll on for an endearing take on this particular cultural moment in our city’s history.
