Splash points: five top outdoor bathing spots

King’s Cross Pond Club is a chemical-free, 40m swimming pool which is innovatively filtered by wetland plants. It’s about to open as part of the Relay public art programme.

City workers have long been heading to Oasis in Holborn for a post-work paddle. It’s heated and conveniently open all year round. Just don’t think about all the bus fumes you’re inhaling.

Tooting Bec Lido

At 100 yards long, Tooting Bec Lido is the largest freshwater pool in Britain. But brace yourself: it’s also a contender for the chilliest. This year it held the Cold Water Swimming Championships.

When it was refurbished in 2005, Parliament Hill Lido was fitted with a stainless steel pool liner which gives the water a special shimmer. So even on grey days you can swim in sparkly waters.

As if sunning yourself among the art deco buildings and chilling out in an award-winning café wasn’t enough, Brockwell Lido also hosts events including films, concerts and furniture fairs.
